Warren Blue Devil Travelers

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to be a member of a team? Youth baseball players who live within the Warren High School District (District 121).
Any player living outside the district will need board approval.

How are players evaluated? Evaluations will be made on fundamentals and techniques. How the player fields the ball, footwork, techniques used for throwing, batting, pitching and catching. How the player moves to the ball and much more. We use a scoring matrix to evaluate players at various stations to measure skill in each area.

Who will evaluate the players? Independent Evaluators hired by the League.

How many evaluations must I attend? Players are encouraged to attend two evaluations in their age group. Attending two evaluations allows the evaluators a good chance to evaluate the player’s skills.

What should you bring to the evaluation? Players should bring their gloves and bats. Players should also wear appropriate baseball clothes for the try-outs. Remember we will be outdoors. Players should not wear any baseball gear signifying their membership on previous travel or tournament teams. If a child shows up in Travel or Tournament clothing or hat, they will be asked to come back.

Why is there a charge for the evaluation? We are charging $20 per player to offset the cost associated with the evaluation. (i.e. evaluators, facilities and supplies).

I see the registration date has passed for the evaluation. Is it too late? NO. You can still register for the evaluation via phone, email and we will accept walk-up registration the day of the evaluations.

Should I register for Gurnee Youth Baseball or Warren Youth Baseball too? Our selection process is usually completed by the end of October. That should give you ample time to sign-up for either program if they are not selected for the Blue Devil Travelers. If you are still concerned, you can sign-up for the in-house program of your choice and request a refund if you play with the Blue Devils.

If I’m selected to play with the Blue Devils does that guarantee me a spot on the high school team? No, this program is designed to prepare you for high school level baseball. You will still have to try-out and will receive no extra preference over any other candidate for the team.

How will coaches be selected? The manager will secure additional coaches from candidates of players who make the respective team.

How many players on a team? The manager will determine the number of players on a team. The minimum will be 10 players.

How many teams will you have? We plan on sponsoring at least one team at the age levels of 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 years old.

How many teams at each age level? We will have a minimum of one team. If it is determined through player evaluation that there is enough talent to sponsor two or more teams we will add more teams.

Who will determine if there will be two teams? The board will discuss with the evaluators and Managers if there is enough talent to field a second team. We want the second team to have enough travel level players to successfully compete in a travel league.

If there are two teams at an age level, will you split the talent evenly? No, The manager of the Gold team will select from the top evaluated players for his/her team. If a second team is warranted, the manager of the Blue team will select players from the remaining pool of players.

Who will select the team? The manager in conjunction with the evaluators will use the results of the evaluation to select his/her team. Besides the results of the evaluation, the manager can also use information available from past team statistics.

When is the season? There will be winter practice at least once a week from January until end of March. The travel schedule season will start approximately Mid-April through Mid-August. The team may stay together and play a fall baseball schedule.

When will practice start? Team practice will start after January 1st.

Where will practice be held? Practices will be held at various locations around the area. Most indoor practices will be held at Warren Township High School.

How many games will be played? Between 40-70 games depending on age level.
