How to Embed a YouTube Video on Your Website

You can embed a YouTube Video directly on your web site on any page that in the admin uses the text editor for some or all of the content. This means you can add a video directly on your home page by embedding a video into your Welcome message, News article, or Announcements. Videos can also be embedded into Custom pages that you create along with the Coaches and Player Bio pages.

In this next example I'm going to embed a YouTube video into a News article.

1. Upload your video to YouTube: There is a bunch of online help on YouTube on how to upload your video, so I'm not going to recreate that information here. Simply go to YouTube.com, signup for an account, read their instructions, and upload your video(s).

2. Create a new News article: In the admin area of your website by selecting "News" from the "Edit" menu and then selecting the "Add News" link.

3. Create a title: Enter a title and other content you want to appear in the article before the video.

4. Customize and copy the embed code from YouTube: In YouTube there are a couple of options you can use to customize how your video will appear. There is an Embed line next to your movie (shown in the image below) that you need to copy. This is the code you will paste into the text editor on your site. You can make changes by using the "customize" button directly after the embed code. Once you've made any customizations that you want, copy the embed code.

5. Switch to HTML mode: In order to paste the code from YouTube you must switch the editor from the "Normal" view to the "HTML" view by selecting the HTML button at the bottom of the text editor.

6. Paste code into the text editor: Once you've switched to HTML mode you can now paste the YouTube embed code into the editor. You can do this by clicking on the Paste button on the toolbar or by using mouse or keyboard shortcuts. Depending on your browser you may be presented with a warning. Select the option to allow access and the code will be displayed in the text editor.

7. Switch back to Normal view: Now that you've pasted the code into the editor, switch back to "Normal" view in the HTML editor and you should see your video.

Congratulations you've embedded your video!: Now just publish the news article, announcement, or custom page and the video will appear on your site.
