Adding Music to Your Website
As a person who is usually listening to music while I'm working at my computer, I'm not a big fan of web sites that automatically play music when I visit them. Your parents and players may feel the same way, so here are a couple of ways to add music to your website that won't be so intrusive to your visitors.
Upload your own or use a third party component? You can upload your own song and link to it or embed it on a page, or you can follow our instructions for using Playlist.com to embed music on your site. Here is a list of differences to help you make the decision on how you want to add music.
• Solution 1: Use Playlist.com to build a song list that you can embed on your website. The advantage of using this third party component is that the music will be downloaded and played from a third party website. You don't have to purchase the music, you can have multiple songs play and have them play randomly, and it won't affect the speed of your home page for people visiting your site. • Solution 2: Linking to a song from your website. If you want your song to play regardless of where the person is on your site, then this may be the option for you. In this case you'll want to upload the song and link to it. This way if a person clicks on the link it will play using the default music player installed on the computer and will continue to play until the person stops the music. Another advantage to linking to your song is that it will be downloaded separately when the visitor clicks on the link, versus being downloaded each time your home page is requested. • Solution 3 (not recommended, unless the song file size is fairly small): Embedding a music player on your web page. In this case you can embed a player in your welcome message or news article and either have it automatically play or have the visitor play it on demand. The negative side of this is that the song will be downloaded from Rteamsite.com and if you upload a large music file, it will slow down the speed of your home page as your visitor will need to download the large music file when they visit your site. The song will only play when a visitor is on a page with the embedded player on it. Instructions for embedding a player in your website.
