Tigers Baseball is a non-profit baseball program that works in cooperation with well known collegiate coaches and professional players to teach dedicated young players who wish to play baseball at a higher level. The Tigers Baseball mission is to provide young players with the opportunity to develop and learn the sport of baseball from some of the finest teachers in our area.  Tigers Baseball is not affiliated with or in any way associated with the Detroit Tigers or any other Major League Baseball-related entity.

Mission Statement: Provide an opportunity for young players to develop and learn the sport of baseball from some of the finest teachers in our area.

Credo: Baseball is a tedious game requiring daily practice to develop the fundamental skills necessary to perform your best. A perfect practice session requires focus on quality and less on quantity of repetition. Correct execution and repetition of drills ensures a player will develop the skills necessary to excel at the sport of baseball.

Our spring/summer program is for all players ages 10-14 years of age. This program is a continuation of our fall program working on skill development and to preparing players both physically and mentally for spring competition. In addition to group sessions we offer private sessions with Coach John Baker.

"I love kids, that's all, it's no virture. A guy likes kids, has to hope their lives are going to be good, that they will avoid the pitfalls he had. I think one of the greatest things ever said is that a man never stands so high as when he stoops to a kid." - Ted Williams         http://www.tedwilliams.com

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will." - Vince Lombardi

"You can't think and hit at the same time." - Yogi Berra
"If you don't set goals, you can't regret not reaching them." - Yogi Berra

"Baseball in general is not rocket science but rather the dogged pursuit of learning the correct mechanics then duplicating those hundreds and then thousands of times ... correctly. This fact alone may be the biggest reason so many of the best youth age players do not turn out to be the best players as they get older." - JP

Tigers Baseball is a "wood bat only zone!"...
Tiger baseball is leading the way declaring all training sessions to be a wood bat only zone! Players will be asked to not use their aluminum bats during our training sessions. Our teams will compete using wood bats and only use metal when approved by the coach or program manager.

from the dugout ...
The Tigers baseball program is dedicated to helping players and parents in their quest to play at the next level. I receive numerous articles and papers each week from various groups, coaches and organizations whose purpose is to develop players. Each month I will articles under the topic "Articles of Interest". My hope is that by sharing information the transfer of knowledge will help fuel questions and further enhance each player's knowledge of the game.

Many of these articles will have conflicting opinions, so please consider this information as research material for your own individual development. There are no secrets in baseball but there are many opinions on how to play the game of baseball. The internet provides us with a vast resource of information and communication with coaches throughout the world. The old saying is true; "keep them thinking because only smart athletes can play this thinking man's game called baseball".

We started the Tiger program to start the long journey back with a primary focus on player development using controlled scrimmages and games only as an evaluation tool.  For years Kim and other well respected coaches have been stating the same thing; "we are focusing too much on just playing games and not enough on individual player development". Players who spend less time training tend to re-enforce bad habits which are harder to correct the longer they play.

Tigers Baseball is re-introducting the believe that players must spend more time on development of fundamentals and less on play understanding that as Coach Kim states "when you practice you put back into the bank, what you take out each time you play".

Other sports programs are starting the say the same thing. The attached article came out in the Tri-Valley Times illustrating that even the major sponsors of basketball camps see the importance of fundamental development and have decided to force a change.

Tigers Baseball recommends using the "Great Hands" baseball training gloves to teach players to trust their hands by developing "soft hands" while improving their fielding skills. Learn more about this great new training tool by going to The Great Hands Baseball Training Glove
