Rebels Edged By Milleteers, Again
The Ryley Rebels have played 11 games in 2010, and 5 of them have been against the Leduc Milleteers, in which the Rebels are now 1-4 against in 2010.
Veteran P Curt Stensrud got the nod for the Rebels, making not only his first start, but also his first bullpen session all in the same two and half hour time span. Having not pitched since last July, Stensrud had a little rust to shake off in the first inning, as he faced 8 Milleteers allowing 3 of them to score on 4 hits. Stensrud was then able to find cruise control until the 7th inning when a lead off walk to 2B Shawn Brinkworth on 4 straight pitches, allowed the Milleteers to score 2 runs to make it 5-3 and out of reach for the Rebels.
Even with the loss, Stensrud's pitching line was good considering how long ago the big righty last had a baseball on the mound;

Stensrud was able to tie the Rebels record for most strikeouts in a single game with 11, joining Dylan Solberg who struck out 11 Tofield Lakers on June 9th 2009, and 11 Leduc Milleteers on June 19th 2009.
Offensively for the Rebels, they once again were unable to get the big hit when needed, and there was no better example then in the 4th inning. DH Travis Bugge was able to lead off with a single up the middle, and 3B Craig Koughan and CF Josh Lyons followed Bugge with walks to load the bases with no outs. P Ryan Walker was able to strike out RF Dustin Solberg and 2B Brian Tavaroli before LF Corey Epp hit a RBI single to cash in the Rebels only run of the inning. Bases loaded with no one out, and only one run scored will not lead to a lot of wins.
The Rebels are now sitting a 3-4 in PBL play, and are currently in 4th place. Thursday will see the Rebels take on the Tofield Lakers at the Ryley Ballpark, a make up game for last Thursday's rain out. OF Kris Kushnerick is expected to get the start against a Lakers team the Rebels beat 27-8 in their last meeting at the end of May in Tofield. Following the Laker game, the Rebels will then take to field for the annual Rebels Baseball Tournament at Ryley Sports Days, before heading to Bardo and Armena next week in league play.
