Milleteers Cruise Into All Star Break In First

The Milleteers get a well deserved break this week after all the ball they have played so far this year.  They sit first in the standings at 8-2, four points up on the second place Ryley Rebels, and 17-3 overall with two tournament wins and a runner up finish.

The Milleteers are sending catcher Brad Engel and centerfielder Kevin Doyle to the All Star game to represent the PBL.  Both players are hitting over 0.400 and have also chipped in with a combined 26 stolen bases.  Pitchers Jon Anstey and Scott Peterson are also going to the game to try and shutdown the BRL All Stars.

The break should do the Milleteers some good on the injury front as they should get slugger Ryan Swensen back from his angle injury and P/1B Steven Pahl should be healed up from his leg injury that he suffered in their last game against Holden.  The rest of the squad should be refreshed and recovered from all their sore arms and hamstrings in time for a busy week back that will feature two league games and then a tournament in Goodfish Lake.

Leduc Milleteers8-2 VS Tofield Lakers   2-6

Wednesday, July 7th    7:00PM In Leduc

In their first game back the Milleteers will draw the Tofield Lakers.  The Lakers are fading fast in terms of the playoff picture and should be hungry for a win.  The Milleteers however have owned them this year in the two contests they have played, outscoring the Lakers 36-6, including a 17-3 drubbing of Tofield`s All Star pitcher Marcel Lesoway last time out.

Leduc Milleteers8-2 VS Holden Blue Jays  5-3

Thursday, July 8th   7:00PM in Holden

Then the next night the Milleteers will head out to Holden to face the upstart Blue Jays.  The young Blue Jays surged out to first place earlier this season, before coming back to earth a bit as heart breaking one run losses to the Milleteers and Bardo Athletics have dropped them back to third spot.  The Milleteers are 3-1 against the Jays this year and with the exception of their one loss the Milleteers pitchers have absolutely dominated the Blue Jay hitters.  Last time out Ryan Walker only allowed one base runner over eight innings and the game before that Scott Peterson threw a two hit shutout.  In the preseason opener a quartet of Milleteers pitchers held the Blue Jays to one hit and eighteen strikeouts.  On the flip side the Blue Jays have some good pitching and defense of their own as All Star Kyle Muzechka was able to hold the Milleteers to just two runs in eight innings in his last start.

Goodfish Lake Tournament    July 9-11

Then the Milleteers will travel to Goodfish Lake for a big cash tournament to celebrate Treaty Days.  The Milleteers will be in tough as the NCABL leading Legal Indians and the hard hitting Edmonton Blackhawks will also be attending, as well as the Lac La Biche Dodgers, St. Paul Cubs and Goodfish Lake will also take part.  The tournament is also an aluminum bat tournament, which will be a little bit of a change for the Milleteers.  The Milleteers will be bringing a few extra bodies as Sawyer and Mason Pahl will be making the trip up.  The brothers haven`t played much since they won the CCBC National Championship this spring with the VIBI Mariners.  The brothers are both outfielders, but can also throw a bit off the mound , so they will give the Milleteers some added depth in the lineup and on the bump.
