 *** Bethlehem Catholic 9, Hazleton Area 6 - The Cougars had a good start, then a rough ending Saturday afternoon in the Lehigh Valley.

Hazleton Area took a 2-0 lead in its first at bats when Carl Cara doubled to open the game, and scored on Ty Rubasky's single, who then scored on Sal Biasi's single.

The Cougars made it 3-0 in the top of the third with a solo run. There were two outs when Tony Craig and Biasi hit back to back singles and AJ Greco drove the run with a single.

After the Hawks rallied for six runs in the home third, Hazleton Area had a three-run answer. Kyle Klein walked and Carl Cara singled, then both rode home on a booming triple by Rubasky, before Evan Vigna drove in the final run of the day.

Bethlehem Catholic rallied for two runs in the home half of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

Craig in his first start catching, had a big day batting with three singles, Rubasky tripled and singled, Cara doubled and singled. Biasi also had three singles, Greco singled twice and Klein had one single.

Ben Niccum had two of the Hawks' hits, with a double and single. Connor Ryan and Paul Karoly each had two singles, Pat Mergel doubled, Evan Cowen and Zac Sedler all singled.

Connor Hedash was the winning pitcher.

The Cougars will return to Wyoming Valley Conference play Monday, hosting Wyoming Valley West, then play at Pittston Thursday and at non-conference West Scranton Saturday.
