Return to Announcement Archive Page Article Date: Apr 17 Cougars win again Hazleton Area 11, Dallas 7 - The Cougars (5-3, 5-1 WVC) had their hitting shoes on as they rapped three triples, two off the bat of Carl Cara and one by Tyler Rubasky, who aslo added a single and an RBI. Sal Biasi added a pair of singles and drove in three runners, Matt Barletta singled twice and had two RBI and Evan Vigna and T.J. Chirico both delivered run-scoring singles. "We hit it pretty good against a team that gives us problems up here," Hazleton Area coach Gino Cara said. "Anthony (Zaloga) struggled somewhat for us pitching, but I can't say enough about the effort we received from Jordan Yanac. It was his first varsity win, and the lefty did a great job in relief." Dallas jumped in front 1-0 after an inning, but the Cougars roared back with two in the second and two more to take a short-lived 4-1 lead, which the Mountaineers erased with a six-spot in the bottom of the third. Back came Hazleton Area, which turned the tide in its favor for good with five runs in the fourth. "Big inning, no question about that," Gino Cara said. "We responded the way I know we can. I liked the way we battled. They showed me lot on the road today." The bottom of the order stirred the pot in the decisive rally, when A.J. Greco and Kyle Klein drew walks to set the table for Carl Cara, who promptly smacked a triple to make it 7-6. Rubasky then walked and courtesy runner Henderson Concepcion stole second. Barletta and Biasi followed with consecutive RBI single to put Hazleton Area ahead to stay. Yanac didn't allow another Dallas run; while the Cougars tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth. Paul Narcum had the big bat for the Mountaineers with a third-inning home run and a triple. Brian Stepniak had two doubles, Nitel Stearns, and John Murray both doubled and Jason Shilling added a single. Hazleton Area will play host to Parkland in a makeup non-league game on Wednesday.
