COWBOYS WIN PRESTONE ANTI-FREEZE PEACH BOWL
Arlington
#2 (6-5) 13
Arlington
#3 (4-7) 7
We
finished the season with a win and again it was a total team effort. Everyone
was able to contribute on both offense and defense.
Our
offensive and defensive line were the keys especially with the wind and
freezing rain. We were able to grind out 160 yards on the ground and shut down
their offense with our constant presence in their backfield. Mike Baxendale
ignited our offense with perfect snaps crisp blocks along with linemen Will
Goldsberry, Chris Schulstad, Sean Johlie and Patrick Curley. Shane Kelly led
the offense and completed the only pass he threw all day. He hit the secondary
receiver, Brian Hennelly, after both defensive players went with Brendan Murphy
on the slant route. Hennelly caught the ball on his back in the end zone for
our only extra point of the day.
Jonny Ungurean started the scoring with a 24 yard TD run. Patrick Curley scored
the second TD right after Billy Brichetto recovered a fumble at the 6
yard line. Brendan Murphy almost broke a long one, but he was knocked out of
bounds after a 17 yard gain. Charlie Smith was one tackle away from busting one
on the last play of the first half. Sure handed Will Goldsberry ran out the
clock with his last three carries, the longest for 7 yards.
Sean
Johlie almost returned his interception for a TD. He was knocked
out at the 13 yard line after a 30 yard return. He also had 5 tackles.
Patrick Curley and Jonny Ungurean were the top tacklers with 8 apiece. Nose
Guard Brendan Abbott had a season high 7 tackles and was in the Arlington
backfield all day along with Defensive Tackles Paul Kiel and Billy Doherty.
Zach Durec had 4 tackles and Chris Schulstad had 3 quick tackles in the 4th
quarter. Sean Behrens was playing hurt for most of the game and finally had to
be pulled in the third quarter. He still had 3 tackles on a gimpy leg. There
were a lot of good hits and we were fortunate to see two on our side line. One
from Brian Hennelly and the other from Billy Brichetto.
A
great end to a great season.
Thanks for all your
efforts.
