Welcome to our JV Pac 10 Team #1 web site. This will be your source for all team announcements, news and events. We will also be able to post pictures, schedules and game summaries. If you have a great photo or would like to contribute something just email either my wife Diane or me and we will add it in. We are looking forward to a great year.
One of our major goals is to develop the skills the boys will need to play football and develop skills and attributes that they will use throughout their lives. Dedication and hard work are rewarded on and off the football field. We believe we have a great mixture of young men and look forward to working with them throughout this season.
Football is a means for learning sportmanship, teamwork, self-discipline, friendship, concentration, leadership and many other attributes that will serve the players in life (on and off the field). As coaches we will stress these attributes.
SAT. OCT. 24 2:45 GAME CANCELLED
Due to the fields being closed, today's game has been cancelled. Please watch your email and this site for updates on the reschedule...it could be tomorrow, Oct. 25
Kudos to the Beach Park team for a well played game. They executed very well, and did exactly what we thought they were going to do. They are a big play team and were able to score on broken tackles and long runs. Both of there sweep touchdowns happened after we had initial hits in the backfield----Gang Tackling. Second half for the most part is how the entire game was expected to go a back and forth fight. I think we need to just focus on gang tackling for our remaining three games and we will be fine.
Practice wise we will be working on not stopping until the whistle is blown. All of Schaumburg's scores yesterday came off of plays where we made the initial hit at, or behind, the line of scrimmage. We just failed to gang tackle. That is a learned response that we will work on. Other than that, our defense was good. In the first half we held our ground and stopped their outside sweeps. Our pass defense stayed close and we pressured the QB. If we can put that together with finishing the plays we would have put ourselves in a better winning position.
Offensively we need to break the habit of not blocking unless the play is right on top of us. Many times we were one block away from busting around the end or turning a small gain into great yardage. Our passing plays went well and we were within finger tip reach on many of them. Great effort all around.
Please note the change in practice times and schedules for the remaining weeks in October.
Please make sure the boys bring their own water bottles to practice and the games. With all the concern regarding H1N1 and just the general flu it is best that they do not share water bottles. The boys should also wash out their helmets and pads with light soapy water; and it would help if they brushed with toothpaste or listerine their mouthguards. A couple of guys complained of sores in their mouths.
Again, thanks for coordinating oranges--big headache off my list.
Finally, finally....you can all use the Guestbook function to leave messages of encouragement to the boys--
Our team has a priority in place...... Faith and Family--School--and then football. If your player is not taking care of the first three to your satisfaction then he is not prepared for football. Your rules will be respected on the field. That especially includes homework--football is never to be used as an excuse for not keeping current. Football is a privelege that parents give to their children -- it requires responsibility on the part of the player.
What's up with Coach and his lollipops???????
The lollipops serve a great function. When I feel like my comments are not going to be too helpful or I am afraid my frustration with calling a bad play, the refs call or if I think we are not playing up to our potential--then I grab a lollipop and stick it in my mouth. Generally, I will keep my mouth closed until it is gone or replace it if I end up chewing it to pieces. It reminds me to not get soo upset that I may take the fun out of the game for the boys.
Now you are wondering why I carry soo many--well that is for anyone else who is on the verge of loosing their cool, or feeling the need to advise the refs of a bad call, or needing toadvise the opposing coach that you question his phiosophy or (dare I say) shouting out instructions (sideline coaching) to the players on the field--all of those and more will earn you a lollipop. If you get one from me it is my polite way of letting you know that you need to keep your lips closed around the treat, enjoy it until it is done, and then get back in the game with positive cheering.
The boys really enjoy hearing the "way to goes" and cheers of "great hit" and other positive affirmations from the sidelines. It lets them know you support them and are proud of their efforts. I like a loud positive sideline. Sometimes it is hard to remeber its their game--key word game. I do want to thank you all for not forcing a depletion in my supply. You have all been great. BTW--I do take requests if you think you need one. I'd rather you ask than me having to give you one.
Cowboy's Movie Night
Sunday night was a lot of fun. Thanks to all that brought a treat to share. I hope this time gave everyone a chance to get to know on another in a relaxing atmosphere,
